Lowlights of the Debate in the House: To Surge or Not to Surge

Update II: The U.S. Senate, in a very rare Saturday session, could not muster enough support to put the surge resolution to a vote. Before the chamber could actually hold a debate and vote, 60 members had to agree to the motion. It failed by 4 votes. Dullardry, that is endemic in the House, also has some carry over into the big chamber. Here is Jeff Sessions, a Senator elected from the great state of Alabama, arguing that the REAL reason for invading Iraq was not WMDs, oil or to bring democracy to the mideast. It really was about forcing Saddam Hussein to finally admit that Iraq was defeated in the first Gulf War in the 1980s.

Hear it for yourself ...

Update I: The House passed the resolution disapproving of the troop increase, "surge," in Iraq by 246 to 182; 17 GOP yeas. I guess our eloquent friends from Virginia, Florida and Alaska did not dissuade too many members of the House.

Here are just a few examples of why the House of Representatives has never been recognized as the most deliberative and intellectually stimulating branch of the federal legislature. A champion of xenophobia from the mountains of Virginia,Virgil Goode, is a Passionate Defender of the Nickel!

Here is another example. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite from Florida channeled Larry the Cable Guy to advance her argument.
The ‘Get ‘er Done’ defense of escalation.

It only gets better. Rep. Dan Young from Alaska used a phoney quote that he attributed to Abraham Lincoln to advance his argument in support of Bush's escalation in Iraq. Lincoln NEVER made these comments. This quote came from another intellectual giant who writes for the Washington Times and NOT President Lincoln. No mattter...the neo-con version of history or reality nurtures a culture of deception, obfuscation and deceit!

I am sure if I looked hard I can find examples of "dullardry" on the otherside of the aisle. However, it really is obvious that the gene pool is far more limited among the members of the Grand Olde Party!
