It’s Never the Lie; It’s the Effort to Cover-up the Lie
Our friends in the White House apparently have never taken the cruise control off. In the heady days of DeLay, Frist and Hastert, they never had to watch their backs. Political acts in the guise of public policy never were questioned or doubted. The rubber stamp leadership in the Republican Congress was too busy counting their gold coins collected on K Street to pay any attention to White House hi-jinks. Unfortunately, Alberto and Karl have forgotten one the most important lessons in contemporary politics. Delete your e-mails and remember who your enemies are!
Can these guys really be this stupid? Alberto has changed his story regarding the firing of the 8 federal prosecutors more times than New Gingrich has been married. When he was the legal bagman for Bush, he could remain elusive and slimy. Unfortunately, he became the Attorney General and he never figured out that insulating Bush from criminal wrongdoing is a slightly different job than upholding the Constitution! I am sure if you reviewed his various statements given under oath to the Congress about the federal prosecutor firings, you will find lies, lies, damnable lies. Let’s face it folks, Alberto is toast.
And Karl, Bush’s Brain, seems to have forgotten that there are 3 branches of government. In the good old days, the Republican held government, had a different set: the Dept. of Fundraising, the Dept. of Suppressing the Vote, and the Dept. of Swift Boating. He could maneuver in the smarmy world of “quid pro quo politics” completely immune from oversight. Unfortunately, those days are over. Why he didn’t start reformatting his hard drive after the November elections is hard for me to understand.
First, it was Alberto’s cabin boy, Kyle Sampson, who was responsible for the firing debacle. He’s gone. Now, we learned a few days ago it was Harriet Miers’ idea. She left a long time ago. By the way, Bush said she was the very qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice. Frankly, I think Bush wanted her on the Court simply because she had no idea how to accessorize. Those black robes can cover-up a multitude of fashion mistakes!
And now we are learning that Bush’s Brain may have come up this wonderful plan-fire them all and then let God (Charles Dobson) sort them out. I do find it interesting that Karl’s cabin boy, Tim Griffin, slipped into the federal prosecutor’s chair in the Arkansas District in the dead of night as part of this grand plan. I can’t imagine why Karl wanted one of his minions snooping around Arkansas?
As a colleague of mine once said, “Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.” This administration comprised of Bush loyalists, political hacks and sycophants have done so much damage. From Iraq to New Orleans, from trying to privatize social security to pushing ill-conceived faith-based initiatives, and now from Scooter to Kyle, we have a trail of incompetence, political shenanigans, and an overall disdain for the purposes and functions of government.
At one time public service was considered a higher calling. Today in this overheated, vindictive political climate, public service has been reduced to the lowest common denominator. Public service is a stepping-stone to securing a fat cat private sector job, to win elections, to make career connections or to plunder the treasury.
Alberto and Karl, you’re doing a heck of a job!
